Claiming and managing your Satisfactory server
Connect in-game, claim the server, set the admin password, load or upload a save, and keep your factory backed up.
A Satisfactory dedicated server is managed almost entirely from inside the game — you connect to it, claim it, and administer it through the in-game Server Manager. This guide walks through first setup and day-to-day management.
1. Connect and claim the server
The first person to connect claims the server as admin.
- Start your server on ServerPrism and wait for the console to show it's up.
- In Satisfactory, open Server Manager → Add Server.
- Enter your server's connection address (
IP:portfrom the Overview tab). If it asks for a port, use the one shown in the panel. - On first connection you'll be prompted to claim the server — give it a name and set an Admin Password.
Whoever claims it holds admin. Keep that password safe.
2. Set your passwords
In the in-game Server Manager, under the server's settings:
- Admin Password — required for administrative changes.
- Client Password (optional) — set this to make the server private; players need it to join.
3. Start a new game or load a save
From the Server Manager you can:
- Create Game — pick a starting location and start fresh.
- Load Game — load a save already on the server.
Upload an existing save
To bring a solo/local save onto the server:
- Find your local save (
.savfile) on your PC — typically under%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\. - Upload it via SFTP into the server's save folder (usually
.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/). SFTP is best for save files — see File Manager & SFTP. - In the in-game Server Manager, Load Game and pick the uploaded save.
4. Keep it backed up
Satisfactory autosaves as you play, but a factory is a lot of hours — protect it:
- Take a server backup before big changes or updates.
- The game keeps rotating autosaves in the save folder; you can also download a
.savvia SFTP for an off-server copy.
5. Updating
When Coffee Stain releases an update, the game client and server must be on the same version. If your client updated and can't connect, the server needs to update too — it usually updates on restart; if it's stuck on an old build, open a support ticket.
Common issues
- Can't find the server in Server Manager: it's still booting, or you entered the wrong
IP:port— copy the connection address from the Overview tab. - "Claim" prompt never appears: the server didn't finish starting — check the Console; connect again once it's up.
- Forgot the admin password: you can reset server state by re-claiming after clearing the admin config — open a support ticket and we'll help so you don't lose your save.
- Client can't join after an update: version mismatch — make sure the server updated to match your game client.
- Save won't load after upload: it landed in the wrong folder or the server can't read it — confirm the SaveGames path and that the file uploaded fully.
