4GB comfortably fits 2 to 4 players on vanilla. You can upgrade or downgrade anytime.

How much RAM does your Minecraft server need?

The honest answer for a school friend group, based on what we see across thousands of servers.

Players Recommended RAM What it handles
2 to 4 players 4GB Vanilla or light plugins, a typical friend group
5 to 10 players 6 to 8GB Plugins, smaller modpacks, a whole class
10 to 20 players 12 to 16GB Big modpacks like RLCraft or All the Mods
20+ players 24GB+ Heavy modpacks, multiple worlds, semi-public servers

Modpacks are the usual reason to size up: a pack like All the Mods 9 wants 8GB or more even for a few players. If you get it wrong, no problem, you can change plans later and keep your world.

Split the cost with your friends

There is no built-in bill splitting, and honestly you do not need one. Here is how most groups do it.

1

One person owns the server

One of you signs up, pays the monthly bill and owns the account. That person adds the others as sub-users so everyone can manage the server.

2

Do the maths once

Divide the monthly price by the number of people in the group, and round up a little to cover the odd month someone forgets.

3

Transfer monthly

Everyone sends their share to the payer using whatever you already use: PayPal, Revolut, Cash App or a plain bank transfer. A group chat reminder on the 1st does the job.

Worked example: our 4GB plan is $13.16 per month. Split between four of you, that is about $3.29 each.

Whoever pays stays in control of the subscription, so pick someone reliable. If they ever leave the group, contact our support and we will help sort out the handover.

A modpack for every friend group

Vanilla survival is a great start, but a shared modpack is what keeps a group coming back after the first month. Some favourites among student groups:

Online in about five minutes

No port forwarding, no leaving a PC on overnight. This is the whole process.

1

Pick a plan

Choose your RAM size and check out. Any running promo code is applied automatically.

2

We install the server

Your server is provisioned automatically, usually in under two minutes. Pick vanilla, Paper or a modpack from the panel.

3

Share the address

Copy the server address from your panel and drop it in the group chat. Friends add it to their server list and join.

4

Whitelist your group

Turn on the whitelist so only your friends can join, and make your co-admins operators.

Questions school groups actually ask

Can I share admin access with my friends?

Yes. You can add friends as sub-users on the panel with their own logins, and choose exactly what each of them can do, from restarting the server to editing files. In-game, you can also make them operators with the op command. You stay in control of the billing either way.

Does the server stay online when nobody is playing?

Yes, it runs 24/7 on our hardware, so nobody in the group has to host from their own PC or leave a laptop running overnight. Whoever finishes their homework first can hop on, the world is always there.

What happens during exam season or school breaks?

If the whole group needs a break, you have options. You can downgrade to a smaller plan, or pause the server with our Cold Storage option, which keeps your world saved for a small storage fee while you are away. When you come back, you pick up exactly where you left off.

Can we upgrade if we outgrow the plan?

Yes. You can change plans from your dashboard at any time, and your world, mods and settings carry over. Most groups start on 4GB and move up when they add a modpack or more classmates join.

Is there a student discount?

We do not have a separate student discount, but the code AUTUMN10 gives you 10% off for life and is applied automatically at checkout. Split a small plan four ways and each person usually pays about the price of a snack per month.

Can classmates who do not own Minecraft join in offline mode?

Technically you can turn off online-mode in server.properties, but we do not recommend it: it disables account verification, which makes impersonation and griefing easy. A better route for friends on phones or consoles is Bedrock crossplay through Geyser, which we support. For Java, everyone needs their own account.

Which games can we run besides Minecraft?

The same plan can run other games too. You can switch the runtime from your dashboard to games like Terraria, Palworld, Rust or Valheim without buying a new server, so the group can change games between terms.

Do all of us need ServerPrism accounts?

Only the person paying needs a billing account. Friends you invite as sub-users create a free login for panel access, and anyone can join the game itself with just the server address.

Ready for the new school year?

Set the server up tonight, share the address in the group chat tomorrow. We handle the hosting, updates and backups.
