Minecraft Live September 2026 just wrapped up, and it brought some of the biggest revelations in the game's history. After more than 14 years with the classic trio of the Overworld, Nether, and End, Mojang has officially unveiled The Sift—a brand-new fourth dimension coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
Alongside the groundbreaking dimension reveal, the broadcast showcased the upcoming Ice Caves underground biome drop, the imminent launch of Minecraft Dungeons II, the Nintendo Switch 2 release, and plans for the first-ever real-world Minecraft World theme park.
Here is everything announced at Minecraft Live Fall 2026 and what it means for Minecraft players and multiplayer server owners.
1. The Sift: Minecraft's First New Dimension in 14 Years
The biggest headline of the event was undoubtedly The Sift. This marks the first entirely new dimension added to the base game since The End was introduced back in 2011.
What is The Sift?
Described by Game Director Agnes Larsson as a surreal, vibrant plane teeming with wandering souls and strange primordial life, The Sift is neither a fiery underworld like the Nether nor a desolate void like The End. It is an atmospheric realm layered with ethereal geography, glowing biomes, and unique ambient mechanics.
Key highlights revealed during the deep dive:
- Unique Biomes: The showcase gave players an early tour of two core biomes—The Meadow, an expansive, luminous terrain scattered with soul-infused flora, and The Carapace, a rugged, fossilized expanse shaped by ancient titanic structures.
- Rifts & Portals: Unlike the obsidian frames of Nether portals, access to The Sift is connected to dimensional rifts that weave through the deep underground and ancient monuments.
- Release Window: Mojang confirmed that The Sift will arrive as a major game update across both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027, with early developer snapshots and experimental testing expected next year.
2. Next Game Drop: Ice Caves & The Frozen Zombie
Before we reach The Sift, Mojang's next incremental Game Drop will take players deep underground into a brand-new subterranean biome: Ice Caves.
Following in the footsteps of lush and dripstone caves, Ice Caves introduce freezing subterranean landscapes filled with new blocks, hazards, and architecture:
- Icicles & Ice Crystals: Natural icicles grow downward from cavern ceilings, creating hazards for unwary spelunkers. Meanwhile, luminous ice crystals carpet the ground, emitting a soft, cold ambient glow ideal for building underground fortress bases.
- The Frozen Zombie: A dangerous new hostile mob variant native to the freezing depths. When it attacks, it inflicts a persistent freezing status effect. Worse yet, some variants throw ice balls at range, dealing devastating cold damage before you can close the gap.
- Calcite & Compacted Ice Formations: Abundant calcite and clear ice blocks provide builders with striking new materials for survival bases and creative projects.
3. Minecraft Dungeons II Launches September 29, 2026
The beloved dungeon-crawler spinoff is returning with an ambitious sequel: Minecraft Dungeons II, officially releasing on September 29, 2026.
Dungeons II reimagines the formula with a seamless, interconnected open world, native jumping and traversal mechanics, and dimensional rifts directly tying into The Sift lore. Players can team up in four-player cross-platform co-op to battle corrupted arch-illagers across vast new wilderness regions.
4. Nintendo Switch 2 & Real-World Theme Park
Mojang also expanded Minecraft's footprint across platforms and the physical world:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Release: Minecraft will officially launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console on October 27, 2026, offering enhanced visual fidelity, native 60fps performance, and expanded render distances.
- Minecraft World Theme Park (2027): In partnership with Merlin Entertainments, the world's first dedicated Minecraft World theme park attraction is opening in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London. Attractions will include the Escape the Nether coaster, life-sized villager trading outposts, and a fully themed Minecraft World Hotel.
What The Sift Means for Multiplayer Server Hosting
A brand-new dimension introduces exciting opportunities—and serious infrastructure considerations—for Minecraft server hosts.
At ServerPrism, we are already preparing our high-performance fleet for the upcoming snapshots and 2027 release:
- Multi-Threaded Chunk Generation: Generating three dimensions (Overworld, Nether, End) simultaneously already requires robust multi-core CPU performance. Adding a fourth dimension with unique volumetric generation makes modern processors with high single-core IPC (like our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Intel Core i9-14900K clusters) essential for stutter-free gameplay.
- Dedicated NVMe Storage: Fast read/write bandwidth ensures smooth dimensional teleportation without loading screen lag when players traverse rifts into The Sift.
- Crossplay Ready from Day One: Thanks to our native Paper and GeyserMC integration, ServerPrism servers will support full Java and Bedrock crossplay the moment snapshots and release builds go live.
Stay tuned as Mojang releases the first experimental snapshots in the coming months. We will be updating our one-click server installer with snapshot builds so you and your community can test the Ice Caves and The Sift the moment they are available!
