Pausing your server with Cold Storage to save money

Going away for a while? Pause your server to stop paying the full plan price while keeping every file safe, then resume in one click when you're back.

Not playing for a while but don't want to lose your world, plugins, and configs? Cold Storage lets you pause your server: it stops running (so you stop paying the full plan price) while every file is kept safe. When you're ready, resume in one click and pick up exactly where you left off.

What pausing does

  • Your files are preserved — world, plugins, mods, configs, and backups all stay exactly as they were.
  • The server stops running — nobody can connect and it uses no CPU or RAM while paused.
  • You pay a low storage-only rate instead of your full plan while it's paused (see pricing below).
  • You can resume anytime — one click brings the server back with all your data intact.

Think of it like putting your server in the freezer: it's not running, but nothing is lost.

Pricing while paused

While a server is in Cold Storage you're billed only for the disk space it's holding:

  • €0.25 per GB per month, based on your server's average disk usage, with
  • a €4.00 per month minimum.

So a 10 GB world would be about €4/month (the minimum), and a large 40 GB modpack world about €10/month — typically a large saving versus the full plan price. When you pause, the panel shows you the estimated monthly cost up front, and the estimate is calculated the same way as the actual charge, so there are no surprises.

How to pause

  1. Go to your service on the ServerPrism website (your account's service list, not the game panel).
  2. Open the service and choose Pause / Move to Cold Storage.
  3. Review the estimated storage cost shown in the confirmation, then confirm.

Your server shuts down and moves into Cold Storage. You'll see it flagged as paused in your services list.

How to resume

  1. Open the paused service.
  2. Click Resume.
  3. The server comes back on your normal plan with all files in place, ready to start from the Console.

Good to know

  • No data is deleted while paused — pausing is completely reversible.
  • You can't play a paused server. Resume it first, then start it.
  • Great for seasonal servers — pause your SMP over exam season or between modpack seasons and resume when everyone's back, instead of cancelling and rebuilding from scratch.
  • If you're pausing because something wasn't working, open a support ticket first — we'd rather fix the problem than have you pause around it.
