Setting up your TeamSpeak 6 server

Connect with your own port, claim admin rights with the privilege key, find the key again in the logs, and add ports for file transfer or queries.

Last updated November 6, 2026

This guide covers your TeamSpeak 6 server on ServerPrism: connecting, claiming admin rights with the privilege key, finding that key again if you missed it, the ports your server uses, and the settings on Startup.

Step 1: Start the server and find your address

Click Start and watch the Console. The first start sets up the server's database, which takes a few seconds. The server is ready when the console shows a line like listening on 0.0.0.0:12345.

Your address is on the Overview tab, for example 123.45.67.89:12345. TeamSpeak runs voice on your server's own port, so always use the port shown there. It is not TeamSpeak's usual 9987.

Step 2: Connect

  1. Install the TeamSpeak 6 client from teamspeak.com.
  2. Choose to connect to a server and enter the address with the port, for example 123.45.67.89:12345.
  3. Pick a nickname and connect.

Share the same address with your friends. For an easier name, add a subdomain and give people name.serverprism.online:12345 (keep the port). See Subdomains, ports and dedicated IPs.

Step 3: Claim admin rights with the privilege key

On the very first start, TeamSpeak creates a one-time privilege key (also called the admin token) for the server admin group. The console shows it like this:

ServerAdmin privilege key created, please use the line below
token=AbCdEf...

Copy everything after token=. In the TeamSpeak client, connected to your server, use the option to enter a privilege key and paste it. You then get the Server Admin group and can set the server name, welcome message, channels and permissions from the client.

The key works once. After it is used, give other people admin rights from the client (server groups), not with the same key.

Missed the key?

It is saved in the server's log files. Open Files, then File Manager, then the logs folder:

  • the small file whose name starts with tsserver_ and ends in _1.log from your first start holds just the key, and
  • the larger tsserver_..._0.log file from the same start has it in the full log.

Open the file and copy the value after token=. If the key was already used, or the files are gone, open a support ticket and we'll help you get admin rights back.

Ports

Your server has one port, the one on Overview. TeamSpeak uses it for voice (UDP), which is all you need to talk.

Service Setting on Startup Default Works out of the box?
Voice Your server's port Your Overview port Yes
File transfer (avatars, channel files, icons) File Transfer Port 30033 No: 30033 isn't one of your server's ports
SSH query Enable SSH Query, SSH Query Port Off, 10022 Off
HTTP query Enable HTTP Query, HTTP Query Port Off, 10080 Off
HTTPS query Enable HTTPS Query, HTTPS Query Port Off, 10443 Off

To use file transfer or a query port:

  1. Open Server Settings, then Network, then Allocation, and click Request Allocation. Note the new port number.
  2. On Startup, set File Transfer Port (or the query port you want) to that number. For a query, also set its Enable setting to 1.
  3. Click Save Changes and restart the server.

Each port can only be used once, so give every service its own extra port.

Startup settings

Setting What it does
Server Query Admin Password The password for the serveradmin query login, ChangeMe by default. Change it before you turn on a query port.
Server Version The TeamSpeak 6 version installed with the server, latest by default.
Accept TServer License (required) Shows that the TeamSpeak server license is accepted. You can't change it.
File Transfer Port The port for file transfers (see Ports above).
Enable S3 File Transfer and the S3 settings Optional: store transferred files in your own S3 bucket instead of on the server. Leave them empty if you don't use S3.

Click Save Changes and restart for changes to take effect.

Slots

Our TeamSpeak 6 servers run without a TeamSpeak license file, so TeamSpeak's own free limits apply. On our servers the console shows them at start-up under Licensing Information, for example max slots : 32 and max virtualservers: 1. TeamSpeak sets these limits, not your plan.

Common issues

What you see What to do
"Failed to connect" in the client Check the server is running in the Console, and use the exact address and port from Overview.
Avatars, icons or file uploads fail File transfer needs its own port. Follow "To use file transfer or a query port" above.
The privilege key is refused It has already been used. Ask an existing admin to add you to the Server Admin group, or open a support ticket.
A query tool can't log in Turn the query on, give it its own port, and use the serveradmin login with your Server Query Admin Password.

If something doesn't work as described here, open a support ticket with your server name and the last lines of the console, and we'll help.
