The Crossplay tab: Geyser, Floodgate, Via and Bedrock players

Update Paper, Geyser, Floodgate and the Via plugins from the Crossplay tab, find the Bedrock address and port, and add Bedrock players to the whitelist.

Last updated November 6, 2026

Minecraft Crossplay servers run Paper with Geyser and Floodgate, so Java and Bedrock players (phones, tablets, consoles and Windows) can play on the same world. The Crossplay tab keeps those parts up to date in one place. This guide explains what the tab does, where Bedrock players find your address and port, and how to add Bedrock players to your whitelist.

New to crossplay? Start with Getting started with Minecraft Crossplay.

Where to find it

Open your server and choose Crossplay in the sidebar, under Minecraft. The tab is there on Minecraft Crossplay servers. If you added Geyser yourself to another server type, you won't see it; the getting-started guide above explains that setup.

At the top, the Crossplay Toolkit shows whether the server is running. Most updates need the server stopped: while it runs, the tab says so and those buttons stay grey. Stop the server from the Console when nobody is playing, then come back.

What's on the tab

Section What it is
Paper server The Minecraft server itself. Shows the version Installed and the Latest stable Paper.
Bedrock compatibility Geyser (translates Bedrock to Java) and Floodgate (lets Bedrock players join without a Java account).
Cross-version compatibility ViaVersion (newer Java clients can join), ViaBackwards (older Java clients) and ViaRewind (very old 1.7 and 1.8 clients).

Each row shows the version on your server and the newest one available, with an Update button (or Install if it isn't on your server yet). You are asked This will replace the file on disk. Continue? first. Afterwards you see Update applied. Restart the server to load the new version.

Updating Geyser and Floodgate

Keep these two up to date: a new Bedrock version on your players' devices usually needs a new Geyser.

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Click Update on Geyser, then on Floodgate.
  3. Start the server again.

The new file is downloaded before the old one is removed, so a failed download doesn't leave you without Geyser.

The Via plugins

ViaVersion, ViaBackwards and ViaRewind let players on other Minecraft versions join. The tab installs the newest release that is compatible with your server's Minecraft version (Compatible release). These three belong together: when you update one of them, the others you already have are brought to a matching version too. One you don't have is never added on its own.

ViaVersion also helps Bedrock players when your server runs an older Minecraft version than the one Geyser is built for. If the tab suggests installing it, do it.

Updating Paper

Update on Paper server moves your server to the newest Paper. The previous jar is kept as a .bak file. The server must be stopped.

Please read this before you update Paper to a new Minecraft version:

  • Check that Geyser supports it first. Bedrock players can only join once Geyser supports your server's Minecraft version. Right after a new Minecraft release, that can take a little while. Update Geyser first, and check the supported versions on geysermc.org before you move Paper to a brand new release.
  • A world can't go back to an older version. Once the server has run your world on a newer Minecraft, it can't run on an older one. The tab refuses to install an older Paper than your world, so take a backup first. See Backing up your server.

Advanced: pin to a specific Minecraft version lets you choose a Paper version from Minecraft version and click Install. The same rules apply.

Bedrock setup needs attention

Sometimes the tab shows Bedrock setup needs attention with a one-click button next to each item:

Message What the button does
ViaVersion is not installed Install adds ViaVersion.
Geyser is listening on its default Bedrock port (19132), but your allocation uses a different port Fix makes Geyser use your server's own port.

If you set it up differently on purpose, you can dismiss an item. Restart the server after a fix.

The Bedrock address and port

Bedrock players can't use your subdomain, so they always enter an address and a port in two separate fields.

  1. Open the Overview tab. The Bedrock / Console (crossplay) box shows the Server Address and Port for Bedrock players.
  2. In Minecraft Bedrock, players go to Play, then Servers, then Add Server, and enter the address and port exactly as shown.

The Bedrock port is usually different from your Java port. In the Network tab it carries a Bedrock label and a lock: it is reserved for Bedrock players, can't be removed or made primary, and doesn't count toward your port limit.

NetherNet. Since Bedrock 26.60 (27 October 2026), Bedrock players connect through Mojang's NetherNet. On Minecraft Crossplay servers we set this up for you through the server's startup, so you don't need to change anything on the Crossplay tab or in Geyser's config.yml. If a notice at the top of your server page says Geyser is out of date, or that your Bedrock port is being set up, follow what it says: usually that means updating Geyser here and restarting. More detail is in Getting started with Minecraft Crossplay.

Adding Bedrock players to the whitelist

Bedrock players have a gamertag instead of a Java username. You can add them on the Player Lists page (sidebar, under Minecraft):

  1. Open the Whitelist tab.
  2. Type the player's Bedrock gamertag. Spaces are fine.
  3. Tick Bedrock player.
  4. Click Add to whitelist.

The player shows up with a Bedrock label. Instead of ticking the box, you can also start the name with Floodgate's prefix, which is a dot (.) unless you changed it, for example .Steve Builder. The page shows the prefix your server uses under the checkbox. Adding works best while the server is running.

Good to know:

  • Bedrock players can only be added to the Whitelist on this page, not to the other lists.
  • The whitelist only keeps people out when it is switched on. Type whitelist on in the Console to switch it on. See Server basics: server.properties, whitelist, and ops.
  • If the gamertag can't be found, check the spelling, or ask the player to try joining once and then add them again. You can also enter their XUID instead.

Common issues

What you see What to do
The buttons are grey Stop the server first. Via plugins can be installed while it runs, but Paper, Geyser and Floodgate can't.
Bedrock players can't join, Java players can Check they use the address and port from Bedrock / Console (crossplay) on Overview, update Geyser and Floodgate, and restart the server.
Bedrock players can't join after a Paper update Geyser may not support that Minecraft version yet. Update Geyser; if it still fails, open a support ticket.
Floodgate is not installed on this server, so Bedrock players cannot be added here. Install Floodgate on the Crossplay tab, restart, and try again.
Update failed Read the reason after the message. Often the server was still running; stop it and try again.

If you get stuck, open a support ticket with your server name and what Bedrock players see when they try to join, and we'll help.
